From the Cross to Pentecost is a dynamic book. I enjoy the way that Bishop Jakes takes the scriptures of creation and tell it as a story of the lover, God, and his beloved, humanity. There are so many amazing points in the first two chapters that I am having a hard time only naming a few. However I will try to list my favorite points.
Chapter 1
In chapter 1 Jakes puts together the story of creation-
When Bishop Jakes was discussing the reasons why the tree of knowledge of good and evil was in the Garden of Eden, he says, "Love is only proven where choice exists. If there is no choice, there can be no genuine proof of love." Thus, if there were no wrong choice, would we be obedient to God out of love or because that is the only existing path?
Another good point in chapter 1 is in Gen 3:10 when Adam hid from God, which we are still doing today. We may not be hiding from God in the bushes like Adam did, but we are in fact hiding from Him behind our works, behind being a good person, behind our family, behind drinking, smoking, or anything that can keep us from having to give up our desires and pursueing a real Relationship with God.
Chapter 2
In this chapter Bishop Jakes talks about the fall of mankind and how we were separated from our Creator and through his love he devised a plan that would bring forth our salvation.
One of my favorite quotes from this chapter is when Bishop Jakes was talking about the children of Israel- "If God ever takes us on a date, we should expect to get in trouble, because God looks the best when life looks the worst. When our lives are crumbling into pieces, we can see more clearly who God is."

This book is incredible; I mean each page is packed with revelation and enlightenment!!!! I encourage everyone to join this book club with us and share in the experience. Chapter one, offers an explanation on how man has arrived in its current state. Bishop Jakes shows how Adam disobedience caused all of mankind to lose its perfect relationship with GOD. 7And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons. Gneisses3 Now Adam no longer saw things the way GOD saw them, but because of his broken relationship he only had the thoughts of GOD but of his on understanding. 10And he said, I heard thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself.11And he said, Who told thee that thou wast naked? Hast thou eaten of the tree, whereof I commanded thee that thou shouldest not eat? Gneisses3 This is why we now need the bible to understand GOD and to repair our broken relationship!!!

Chapter 4 was really good! Bishop Jakes really does a great job of putting God's love into perspective. He references Abraham giving up his son Isaac as a sacrifice and How God felt to give up His Son as a sacrifice for our sins. What an amazing God that we have to LOVE us so much that He GAVE his only Son for OUR sins! I really enjoyed reading the section in this chapter about God's passion. God used Gomer to show Hosea the pain and passion of his love for us (Hosea 1-3). This chapter made me realize that we owe the Lord sooo much. How can we not live a sold out life for Him when He gave His life for us! I had to take inventory in my own life to see what area's am I being Gomer to God's Hosea. Thankfully, God is a God of Mercy and Grace! I don't know where I would be without Him!!!!

In chapter 5 Bishop Jakes describes the thesis of the entire book. He goes from the Cross to Pentecost. I learned a lot from this chapter because he breaks down the road Jesus took to the cross. One of my favorite quotes from this chapter is when Jakes was describing how Jesus was "bound" when he was sent to the high priest: "In our own lives, this means that even our bondages have a purpose with God. Sometimes God won't let us move, He allows us to be tied up, because he is going to get some glory out of our affliction." That definitely speaks to my life. Sometimes the Lord allows us to stay right where we are, bound and afflicted so that we will have no choice but to give him the praise and glory when we are delivered.
I really enjoyed reading in chapter 6 where Bishop Jakes was talking about how our enemies are used in God’s plan. “God didn’t stop the plots that were set against Christ, but he used their plots to bring Christ into his destiny.” That is important for us to remember because it is easy for us to pray and ask God to remove those “problem people” from our lives, but even they are used to bring us closer to Christ and to PUSH us into our Destiny and purpose.
